This feature allows to generate coupon codes for existing enabled Shopping Cart Price Rules that are configured to be applied using coupon code. Generated coupons are emailed to address specified on Generator Page. Example of such email can be viewed here.
Generator Page
You can access Coupon Generator via Promotions > Coupon Generator in Magento Admin’s main menu. Choices on that page are self explanatory. 
Generator Settings
Settings can be found under System > Configuration > Coupon Generator. Settings allow to disable this feature, so it’s not possible to generate any coupons, change email sender Name and Email and also specify email addresses that will be receiving a copy of email with coupon codes each time somebody generates coupons.
Access Rights
Access to feature settings and generator page itself is controlled via Permissions. This allows specific users to be granted access to Generator Page or Feature Settings or both. You can change access right on this page.
